Sister's Astra deisel (52 plate) suddenly stopped on Sat night. Garage has had a look today and say the fault code is Po251 Spill Valve ECU on side of pump has gone as no fuel is getting through at all. They reckon the part + fitting is going to be £800:( Does that seem about right for this? This was a small garage not a Vaux main dealer BTW.

Not absolutely sure but 1.7 I'm guessing

both are fitted to the astra g but on a 52 plate it deffo won`t be a cdti as they weren`t fitted until 03 plate

1.7 dti is the most common astra diesel engine on that year

i suggest you find a local bosch agent and discuss the problem with them

i think the ecu`s can be repaired on the pump without having to replace it as it can be dry solder joints or even a broken wire ( common problem on non running 1.7 cdti`s ) that could be your problem

internet diagnosis is nigh on impossible on a pump ecu,get a specialist to check it over for just a quotation at first and then weigh up if it is worth the cost of the repair or to cut her losses and sell it for spares or repairs on the likes of ebay ( it could still fetch a reasonable amount non running by someone willing to repair it )

unfortunately pump repairs aren`t cheap but deffo get a second opinion on cost to repair especially from someone who can maybe repair the ecu rather than charging to replace the ecu as this sounds the route your local independant is thinking

Wow, many thanks. This forum is magic:) As you know from previous Veccy heater plugs, I have a Vaux mechanic friend who will be able to get it out for a few quid.

I have repaired these myself , very easy job to do & can be all done within an hour or so .
the ecu is held onto the engine with 4 10mm bolts & there is a wiring plug in the middle ( this is best got at from underneath )
take it off , run a sharp knife round the joint where the sealer holds the back on , pry the back off & look at the circuit board , the faults will be very obvious to see .
re solder , re fit the back cover & then refit the ecu , job done ;)

A small note from the garage which looked at it says
' ECU on Side of Pump' is this the one you're referring to?

Got my mate to take it off for a tenner. Will open it up and see what's going on inside.

Typically been let down so looks like I'm gonna have to try and get it out myself!
How easy is it?

Got the unit off but decided to post to an Ebayer who repairs these units. Got a reply tonight that it is beyond repair but is defo the problem with the car:(

Don't suppose anyone has one that they would be willing to sell?
