Hi, there seems to be a few people suffering from the above problem so I thought I would start a thread on it.
In my case the noise only occured if the car had stood for at least 2 days. The noise occurred about 1 second after starting and sounded like a crunching of cogs but was very difficult to reproduce. Once it occured you had to wait another 2 days for it to happen again but it would never do it at the dealers ! I eventually recorded it on a dictaphone and replayed it to the dealer when a switched on techy recognised the fault and something to do with oil feeds and camshafts. He found a bulletin on it and modified the engine management system and the fault is gone !

Yippee, half a day in the workshop and all is well.
Bye the way I thing the forum is great.
Cheers

good work thats been a problem on some vauxhalls for years but more down to the oil been low, if you own an insignia i'd get down to your dealers and get the update, i've had 16 updates for the ecu in the last 6 months
