Hi,

I have been having a few issues with my Vauxhall Astra Comfort 1.6 2002.
The engine management and service light come on intermittently but never at the same time. When either of these lights are on it:

1)Hesitates to accelerate and feels sluggish especially in low gear.

2) Occasionally on acceleration it won't go above 15mph.

3) Stalls (this has only happened a few times and always starts straight away)

For all of the above, if I turn the ignition off and on it resolves the problem for a period of time but recently they occur more frequently.

The latest fault which occurs is:

4) You turn the outside lights on and the internal lights (including dash and speedo light) go off. You turn the outside lights off and the dash lights come back on.

Has anyone got any ideas, I think it may be the ECU but I am no expert.

I sometimes start the car and neither the engine management or service light are on and the car is perfect. Its very strange.

Due to the age I don't want to spend a fortune on repairing it.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Is yours an 8 valve or 16 valve engine ?

Issues 1, 2, & 3 the hesitation could be down to EGR valve or coil pack

Issue 4 - have you checked the settings on the dimmer control next to the head light switch?

yep agree with that, 02 sensor is the other one that can cause this issue, a lot of people blank the egr you can get them cheaply on ebay
